The Rebirth of TV News in the Cayman Islands

Compass TV Showcase Video

Challenge.

When the beloved Cayman27 signed off in 2019, the people of the Cayman Islands were left without local TV news.

Five years later, with elections only six months away, Compass Media committed to bring TV news back to Cayman.

"The people must know before they can act, and there is no educator to compare with the press."

— Ida Wells, 1892

Solution.

Compass Media had the ambition and resolve to bring TV back to Cayman. In 60 days, Commonal conducted research, developed the brand strategy, and crafted the Compass TV identity.

Soon after, a conference room became a world-class studio, cameras and electronics arrived, and a nationwide talent contest delivered on-air Caymanian talent.

Then, on March 31 at 7:00 AM sharp, Compass TV went live with the Daybreak morning show.

Results.

In the first month:

  • 9,000+ hours of online streaming news watched in the first month

  • 19,000 users visited compasstv.ky

  • 46,000+ people reached on Instagram

  • 49,000+ people reached on Facebook

  • 16,000+ interactions on social media

  • 10,000+ new social media followers

"Seeing the news show back on this morning brought tears to my eyes. Having Compass TV online again, I believe, will make our Cayman community strong and proud and come together with common goals of Community first!!! Cayman Kind and Caring coming your way today and always!!”
